Davido: My dad built me Nigeria’s best music studio Wizkid used to visit

Davido, Afropop singer, says Adedeji Adeleke, his father, once built him the best studio in Nigeria.

In a recent podcast conversation, the singer mentioned that Wizkid and D’banj used to visit the music studio.

Davido spoke of his relationship with his father, a businessman, back in the early days of his music career.

The singer said his father built him the studio on the condition that he maintains a strict schedule at university.

“My dad built me the best studio in Nigeria. Wizkid, D’banj, I mean, everybody used to come there. I have the best studio, but the studio is only open every two weeks because of school,” Davido said.

“So, I come every two weeks, and everybody would come over. Interestingly, at that time, I wasn’t even recording my music.

“I was learning sound engineering. So, I had people come over to the studio to record. I always gave people ideas on how to sing hooks. And my boys started realizing that, ‘Bro, you are better than all these people.’

“I was like, ‘No, I’m still in school.’ They insisted I should try. And I said, ‘Okay.’ The first song I recorded blew up.”

In 2011, Davido released his first single ‘Back When’, a song from his debut album of 2012 ‘Omo Baba Olowo’.

He rose to fame after releasing ‘Dami Duro’, the second track of the album.

In the last decade, Davido has put out multiple chart-topping singles.

This includes ‘Gobe’, ‘One of a Kind’, ‘Skelewu’, ‘Aye’, ‘Owo Ni Koko’, ‘If’, ‘Fall’, ‘Fia’ and ‘Assurance’ among others.

Davido would later release two other albums ‘A Good Time’ and ‘A Better Time‘ in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

These were then followed by the release of ‘Timeless’, his fourth album housing 17 tracks.

Since the album’s release in March 2023, ‘Timeless’ has gained millions of streams across music platforms.
