Ibadan man arraigned for land grab
On Thursday, a 25-year-old man, Sherif Adeleke, appeared before THE Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for a land grab.
Mr Adeleke was charged with conspiracy, forceful trespass on landed property, and threat of violence capable of causing a breach of peace.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 8, about 11.00 a.m. at Akufo Village, Onigborogi, Ibadan.
He alleged that Mr Adeleke and others at large, on the same date and place, unlawfully grabbed and entered one acre of land belonging to an individual, Abdulganiyu Shakirulahi.
Mr Amusan also told the court that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by reselling the land to Mr Shakirulahi for N2.5 million sometime in 2020.
He alleged that the defendant unlawfully threatened Mr Shakirulahi’s life with violence over the land and fraudulently converted the N2.5 million to his personal use.
Mr Amusan said the offences contravened the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
He added that it contravened the Oyo State Real Property Protection and Prohibition of Land Grabbing Law, 2016.
The magistrate, Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until February 14 for hearing.
